Railway Recruitment Board

Railway Recruitment Board (RRB), Madras (now Chennai) functions under the Ministry of Railways, Government of India. It is primarily responsible for recruiting the working and supervisory staff (Group "C") required for Chennai, Salem and Tiruchirappalli Divisions and Head Quarters office of Southern Railway (SR) and Integral Coach Factory (ICF), Chennai.

Selection Procedure

RRB calls for eligible applicants through "Employment News" (A publication of the Government of India). The employment notification is also published on the Internet web site. The applications are scrutinized for eligibility. The eligible candidates are called for a written examination with call letters being sent a month in advance of the date of the examination.

In most of the categories of jobs, there is no interview after the written examination. In some categories, there will be a second stage written examination. In categories related to operational safety, there will be a psychological test.

The application-details furnished by successful candidates are verified and they are called for counselling and scrutiny of original documents. A panel of names is then recommended to Southern Railway / Integral Coach Factory to the extent of vacancies. The candidates will be required to pass a medical examination before appointment.

The results of selection will be made available

  • * On the Notice Board of RRB/Chennai
  • * Through the Internet website And / or In "The Employment News"
  • * To the successful candidates through post

The selection process is based on merit and is subject to the rules and regulations issued by the Ministry of Railways (Railway Board), Government of India which includes reservation of jobs for certain castes/communities such as Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBC), etc. Ex-servicemen are also entitled for reservation as per the rules. The entire computerized recruitment system functions impersonally without fear or favour. There is no scope for corruption, influence or discretion in this process. Candidates indulging in malpractices and unfair means are dealt with strictly.

The overall policy guidelines for all Railway Recruitment Boards in India are laid down by Railway Recruitment Control Board, New Delhi.

Selection Procedure

The selection process will be carried out in two stages, the first one is Common Written Examination and second stage will beInterview conducted by respective RRB.

There will be a common paper for both Generalist and Specialist cadres for the Post of Officer Scale-I.

(a) Group I: For States as categorised as "A" and "B" under Official Languages Act , candidate may answer questions either from English language test or Hindi language test.

(b) Group II: For States as categorised as "C" under Official Languages Act, candidate to appear for English language test.

Penalty for Wrong Answers

There will be penalty for wrong answers marked in the Objective Tests. For each question for which a wrong answer has been given by the candidate one fourth or 0.25 of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted as penalty to arrive at corrected score. If a question is left blank, i.e. no answer is marked by the candidate; there will be no penalty for that question.

Note: As per the IBPS RRB 2014 Selection Process, to get shortlisted for the next round, the candidates will have to secure minimum qualifying marks in each test and also in aggregate scores in Common Written Exam. The shortlisted candidates, under IBPS RRB 2014 Selection Process, can apply for relevant jobs in any of the participating banks, when that particular RRB issues advertisement for interviews.

Interview

Successful candidates in the CWE who meet with the stipulated eligibility criteria will then berequired to apply to any of the participating RRB as and when that individual RRB issues advertisement for interviews.

In response to the intimation of interview, as advertised by the participating RRBs, candidates canregister quoting their IBPS registration no., roll no., password etc. Each Regional Rural Bank willthen individually shortlist candidates and carry out their own selection processes i.e. Interviews etc.for final selection. Candidates seeking age relaxation will be required to submit copies of necessary, certificate(s) at the time of Interview conducted by a particular RRB, if called by the RRB.
