SBI PO - Eligibility Criteria (AS ON 01.09.2014)

(A) Essential Academic Qualifications

Graduation in any discipline from a recognised University or any equivalent qualification recognised as such by the Central Government. Candidate having integrated dual degree (IDD) certificate should ensure that the date of passing the IDD is on or before the eligiblity date.

Note: The date of passing eligiblity examination will be the date appearing on the marksheet or provisional certificate issued by the University / Institute. In case the result of a particular examination is posted on the website of the University / Institute then a certificate issued by the appropriate authority of the University / Institute indicating the date on which the result was posted on the website will be taken as the date of passing.

Age limit (As on 01-07-2014)

A candidate should be between 21 - 30 years as on 01-04-2014 for the June 2014 exam.

Educational Qualifications

Graduate degree in any stream from a recognized university or any equivalent qualification recognized by the Central Government. Final year students can also apply subject to submission of requisite proof by Aug 10, 2014.

Notes for Orthopaedically Handicapped (OH)/Visually Handicapped (VH) candidates:

OH/VH Candidates who suffer from not less than 40% of relevant disability should posses disability certificate issued by Medical Board duly constituted by Central or State Government issued on or before last date of online submission of application

a) Only those OH candidates who have locomotor disability or cerebral palsy with locomotor impairment of minimum 40% and only those who fall in the following categories are eligible to apply

MW - Muscular weakness and limited physical endurance
OL - One leg affected (R or L)
BL - Both legs affected but not arms
OA - One arm affected (R or L)

  • (a) Impaired reach;
  • (b) Weakness of grip;
  • (c) Ataxia

b) Only those Visually handicapped persons who suffer from any one of the following conditions are eligible to apply.

  • i) Total absence of sight.
  • ii) Visual acuity not exceeding 6/60 or 20/200 (Snellen) in the better eye with correcting lenses.
  • iii) Limitation of the field of vision subtending an angle of 20 degrees or worse

c) Candidates having low vision as defined in Chapter I, Para 2 (u) of the persons with Disabilities (Equal opportunities, protections of rights and full participation) Act 1995.

d) At the time of written examination, only blind/low vision candidates and those candidates whose writing speed is affected by cerebral palsy can use scribe/writer at his/her own cost. In all such cases where a scribe/writer is used, the following rules will apply

  • i) The candidate will have to arrange his/her own scribe/writer at his/her cost.
  • ii) The candidate will have to give a suitable undertaking, in the prescribed format at the time of online examination.
  • iii) Blind/low vision candidates and other candidates whose writing speed is affected by cerebral palsy whether availing the facility of scribe or not shall be allowed compensatory time of 20 minutes and/or part thereof for every hour of the examination provided that the candidate uses scribe /writer for both the objective & descriptive test.

Selection Procedure

Selection procedure consists of two phases
Phase 1: Objective test & Descriptive test
Phase 2: Group discussion & Interview

State Bank of India's New exam pattern consists of two exams namely Preliminary Examination & Main Examination. SBI has revised its exam pattern immediately after it started conducting Online Exams in 2014. The Detailed view of SBI's New exam pattern is given below.

Phase-I: Preliminary Examination

Preliminary Examination consisting of Objective Tests for 100 marks will be conducted online. This test would be of 1 hour duration consisting of 3 Sections as follows:

Candidates have to qualify in each of the three tests by securing passing marks to be decided by the Bank.
Adequate number of candidates in each category as decided by the Bank (approximately 20 times the numbers of vacancies subject to availability) will be short listed for the Main Examination.

Phase - II: Main Examination

Main Examination will consist of Objective Tests for 200 marks and Descriptive Test for 50 marks. Both the Objective and Descriptive Tests will be online.

Candidates will have to answer Descriptive test by typing on the computer. Immediately after completion of Objective Test, Descriptive Test will be administered.

(i) Objective Test

The Objective Test of 2 hour duration consists of 4 Sections with 50 marks each (Total 200 marks) as follows

  • 1. Test of English Language (Grammar, Vocabulary, Comprehension etc.)
  • 2. Test of General Awareness, Marketing & Computers
  • 3. Test of Data Analysis & Interpretation
  • 4. Test of Reasoning (High Level)

The candidates are required to qualify in each of the Tests by securing passing marks, to be decided by the Bank.

(ii) Descriptive Test

The Descriptive Test of 1 hour duration with 50 marks will be a Test of English Language (Letter Writing & Essay). The candidates are required to qualify in the Descriptive Test by securing passing marks, to be decided by the Bank.

Descriptive Test paper of only those candidates will be evaluated who have scored qualifying marks in the Objective Tests and are placed adequately high as per total marks in objective test.

Phase - III: Group Discussion (20 marks) & Interview (30 marks)

The aggregate marks of candidates qualifying in both the Objective Tests and Descriptive Test will be arranged in descending order in each category. Adequate number of candidates in each category, as decided by the Bank will be called for Group Discussion and Interview. The qualifying marks in Group Discussion & Interview will be as decided by the Bank.

Candidates qualifying for GD & Interview under "OBC" category would be required to submit OBC certificate containing the "Non Creamy layer" clause. Candidates not submitting the OBC certificate containing the "Non Creamy layer" clause and requesting to be interviewed under General category will not be entertained.

Final Selection

The marks obtained in the Preliminary Examination (Phase-I) will not be added for the selection and only the marks obtained in Main Examination (Phase-II) will be added to the marks obtained in GD & Interview (Phase-III) for preparation of the final merit list.

Finally, selected list of candidates will be made available on the Bank's website. Final select list will also be published in Employment News/ Rozgar Samachar
